Flying Moose Rally Team

Flying Moose Rally Team began in 2008 with the wild dream of building a Volvo 242 for rally competition. While Volvos are common in Scandinavian rallies, they are rarely seen in North America. Today, the team continues to compete in their highly modified 1980 Volvo 242 throughout the Central and Eastern Regions of the Rally America and Canadian Rally Championship series.

Flying Moose Rally Team is dedicated to having fun, good times with friends and family, and most importantly, going FAST!

With over 80 years of combined rallying experience, Flying Moose Rally Team is one of the most experienced and professionally run amateur rally teams in North America.

Flying Moose Rally Team is proudly sponsored by Thompson Racing Fabrication

Ian Topping

Ian Topping was born on 15 December 1987 in Flint, Michigan. He started attending and working rallies well before his first birthday and is guided by his father, Jay Topping, who has been consistently involved in rallying since 1973.

By his 10th birthday, Ian had the dream to compete in rallying. Finally, in 2008, with the help of Thompson Racing Fabrication, friends and family, the resources were there to make the dream come true.

That’s when Flying Moose Rally Team was started and development on their 1980 Volvo 242 commenced. Two years later, in 2010, they competed in their first event, Sno*Drift.

Since then Ian and the team have been competing in events throughout the Central and Eastern Regions of the United States and Canada.

When not flying through the woods, Ian proudly serves in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant.
